Attention Trainers**
I want to announce the first of a series of free teaching seminars for BFL football trainers to be run at the Kiro Kids clinic (2 Princes Street North, Ballarat) on Sunday April 13 starting at 1.30pm. The seminar will last approximately 2 hrs. Can you please notify the clubs? Here is the background;

Injuries incurred as a result of high acceleration/deceleration sports such as AFL football fall into three distinct categories as follows

· direct tissue damage injury which may require medical referral and the recruitment of other health professionals such as physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, etc,

· minimal impact orthopaedic type injuries that involve joint function

· high and low impact neurological type injuries which respond particularly well to Kiro Kids type treatment

The second category above are manageable by an appropriately well informed football trainer and significantly these type of injuries are central to the risk factors that lead to more serious injuries such as muscle tears, ACL ruptures, etc. What my goal to do is to educate the trainers to identify the orthopaedic type injuries and also to know when they are local treatable injuries or if they are secondary to a more serious neurological type injury. The former I will train them to treat on the spot, the latter need to be referred.

Kind Regards,
